I think what Ezra Pound meant by “new” is the creativity and the innovation that artists pursue to do. Generally, new design or new pattern would grab people’s attention rather than old, cliché designs. Creating art pieces should not be about imitating the previous works that people left, but about making it into our own styles and surprising people. Creating art is a joyous process because there are no really any rules for art, unlike creating a computer or writing an essay. In the world of creating art pieces, artists are free to do whatever they like to express themselves. Artists continuously break away from previous ways of doing things and traditional forms because art is usually in a periodic form. From time to time, there are different styles of drawing and painting. From the Romantic Period to the Modern Period, the styles are totally different. Also, by just looking at the fashion industry right now, every season there is always a different style that is trending, and it is totally different from the previous ones. I think most artists like to be innovative and like to try new things. They might just saw something on the street, which inspired them to move on to creating a whole new collection of art.
