The social
events had brought a negative effect to America, politically and economically.
People who had the “American dream” and tried to gain wealth have to work even
harder just to survive. There was particular one event that was filmed into a
movie – the sinking of Titanic. Titanic was a ship that represents wealth and
advanced technology. It was a symbol for a high-class life that people want to
pursue. However, its sinking shocked many people in the United States. Also,
around that period, United States also joined WWI. Many young men were sent to
the army to fight for the war. Many people died in the battle. All these events
have brought America to a point of depression. It particularly affected the
artistic movements, from being positive to having a pessimistic attitude toward
life. After the war, people suffered from economic breakdown, making life
harder and tougher.
Today, in United States, people were
inspired by its freedom. Many arts are about a celebration of freedom they have
in America. I think people would think they are lucky to live in America
because of its democracy and freedom compare to other countries. Also, many
artists celebrate America’s power of being one of the strongest countries in
the world.
I found that the "American dream" was pretty ironic since what really ended up was depression, wars, and economic crisis during the twentieth century. Titanic was also one of the major tragedies I remembered because they were just celebrating the one hundredth year anniversary for Titanic.
回覆刪除I think the "American dream" is still an utopia that have not yet been achieved by America. But with this "American Dream" in mind, people can hope for this state of being and finally achieve it in the future.
